Southern grooves

OverView
Southern Grooves was one of the most unique design challenges we've faced acoustically and ergonomically. The design was molded around a grid of 3' concrete columns spaced 17' apart. The floor plan and sight lines are a product of a in-depth study of Matt's workflow and the existing conditions.
With an amazing client and build team, Southern Grooves is a magical studios we are honored to be a part of. As soon as you walk in the door, it's like stepping back in time. Bringing Matt's vision to life, we were able to combine old school acoustic treatments with modern technology.
The difficult part of describing the studio is deciding on a defining element. From the floor pattern to the ceiling design to the custom cue boxes, every detail was handled with great care. Soffit mounted Ocean Way speakers above a large window give the entire control room vision to the live room and drum booth. The reverb chamber is a unique shape specific to Southern Grooves, giving Matt a reverb sound on par with Sam Phillips' chamber. The live room features, wood resonant panels above the main window and absorptive and reflective acoustical treatment that line the room. The deep control room provides a generous work space for all the vintage gear and a seating area in the back. Calculated bass trapping provides an incredibly even frequency response throughout the room.
