ABOUT STEVEN DURRprincipal designerGrowing up in Baton Rouge, Louisiana, Steve was inspired by the rich array of music and learned what true musicians and players were like, creating a reference point for emotion and musicality throughout Steve's career. Early in his life, Steve’s passion for crafting sound drew him to acoustic design.
After graduating from Mississippi Gulf Coast College, Steve began engineering records and live performances for artists Loggins and Messina, Johnny Cash, Sonny and Cher, Little River Band, Billy Joel, Kansas, Stevie Wonder, and the New Orleans Jazz Festival. In 1977, Steve moved to Nashville designing acoustics and sound reinforcement systems for Opryland Park. Soon after, Steve redesigned the monitoring systems at Nashville's iconic Woodland Studios, and within a few years Steve was working in the majority of Nashville’s 320 studios. By 1987, Steve began teaching Studio Design and Acoustics at Belmont University. Over the last forty years, Steven Durr Designs has designed more than two thousand recording and performance facilities for with clients including Disney, Willie Nelson, Lenny Kravitz, NASCAR Motor Speedways, Library of Congress, FAME studio, Mark Ronson, Vanderbilt University, Garth Brooks, Austin City Limits, and multiple professional stadiums & arenas. Steve is a fifteen-time graduate of Synergetic Audio Concepts, and regularly presents at national conferences such as AIA Conference on Architecture. Currently, Steve is an active member of the Audio Engineering Society (AES), Acoustical Society of America (ASA), National Association of Music Manufacturers (NAMM), and the Producers & Engineers Wing of The Recording Academy (The GRAMMYS) |
